Why Do Cartoon Characters Wear White Gloves?

This Wednesday i am writing about why cartoon characters wear gloves? Are they all criminals, well no. But I tried to read a “click bate” article about this and decided to puzzle out this question, myself. Plus more.

So Mickey Mouse was the first Disney character to wear gloves and is one reason why copy right laws haven’t been destroyed. In the first Mickey cartoon called Plane Crazy in 1928, his hands were black. He got this famous accessory only in 1929 in The Opry House.

Disney is not the only company that fights for extra long copy right laws but they are the loudest. When Mickey mouse was about to turn public use in the 90’s they fought hard to change the law. Because of this our tv sucks, why? Well if it’s not new some company owns it. So Hollywood is just remaking everything. Here’s a short video to find out more.

And to learn earn more here – How Mickey Mouse Keeps Changing Copyright Law

And here are 3 reasons why Walt Disney started to give white gloves to his characters.

  1. Cost: Drawing characters’ paws in every shot was very time and labor-consuming. Therefore, to speed up the process, animators started to draw the characters without too many details: big heads and eyes, thin and long limbs with four fingers.
  2. Contrast: Because of the fuzzy black-and-white film, it was hard to see the black hands of the character against a black body. White gloves helped to emphasize the paws of the characters and their gestures.
  3. HUMANIZATION: In his biography, Walt Disney admitted that “We didn’t want Mickey Mouse to have mouse hands as he was supposed to be like a human. So we gave him gloves.”

Not a carton but come on now.
